Hyper-V Backup Overview
Hyper-V guest VMs are backed up using a module that runs directly on the hypervisor. This gives you a fast and complete restore path at the hardware level for disaster recovery scenarios.
Our software also backs up files and databases inside the guest VM's operating system, providing granular restore capability for daily admin tasks such as recovering individual files or database records.
- Hypervisor-level backup of all guest VMs
- Granular file and database restore inside guest OS
- Bring your own storage or use ours (Azure / Wasabi)
- Unlimited retention with private encryption
- ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certified storage
Key Questions
Is a Hyper-V checkpoint the same as a backup?
No. A checkpoint is used to mark a specific point in time — typically when installing or upgrading software in a VM. It cannot protect against storage failure, ransomware, or accidental deletion and is not a substitute for a cloud backup.
Can this run alongside my existing backup tools?
Yes. Our module works at the bare-metal and OS levels without affecting other backup applications you may already have in place.
What Hyper-V versions are supported?
See our supported versions page for the full list of compatible Hyper-V versions.
Hyper-V Backup FAQ
Do I need to back up my Hyper-V servers?
Yes. Hyper-V servers are mission-critical and are susceptible to hardware failure, software corruption, accidental deletion, and ransomware — the same vulnerabilities as any other platform.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. All backups use private encryption. Your encryption password is never sent to us, so your data can only be restored by you.
